What are PTFE Coatings?

PTFE coatings (Polytetrafluoroethylene) are non-stick, fluoropolymer, high temp coatings. They have a one-coat system or a two-coat system of a primer and topcoat and have some features that make them go-to coatings. This specific type of coating has the highest operating temperature of all fluoropolymers at 500°F, a low coefficient of friction, as well as good chemical resistance and abrasion resistance. Its non-reactive properties, due to sturdy carbon–fluorine bonds, makes this coating great for applications that must hold up against volatile and corrosive chemicals.

What industries use PTFE coatings?

PTFE coatings are used in a variety of industries, but is most known for its use in bakeware, automotive, chemical, and oil and gas. Some mutual end uses for PTFE coatings include slide gates, hinges, blades, AC pistons, springs, bearings, automotive components, steel, lawn and garden equipment, and guide rails.

PTFE is short for Polytetrafluoroethylene, a chemical applied to mutual bolting materials (such as B7 stud bolts) to provide corrosion and chemical resistance. PTFE coated fasteners provides special corrosion resistance, low coefficient of friction, consistent tensioning and subsequent ease of installation and removal. General testing and field use have proven that the future of coated fasteners lies with Fluoropolymer coatings. Before hot dip, galvanized, cadium or zinc plated fasteners were considered the standard. But these coatings could not stand up to the corrosive atmospheres prevalent in many industries.
