Stainless steel is basically low-carbon steel that contains chromium at 10% or more by weight. It is the count of chromium that gives the steel its exceptional stainless, corrosion-resisting properties. The chromium contented of the steel allows the construction of a tough, adherent, invisible, corrosion-resisting chromium oxide film on the steel surface. If harm mechanically or chemically, this film is self-healing, provided that oxygen, even in very tiny amounts, is present. The corrosion resistance and other functional properties of the steel are raised by increased chromium content and the addition of other component such as Molybdenum (MO), Nickel (Ni), and Nitrogen (N).
